Biography

Dr Nita Forouhi is the Group Leader of the nutritional epidemiology programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge, UK. Her main research interests are in the aetiology of diabetes and obesity, with a particular focus on the contribution of diet and nutrition. Nita is leading a programme of research that aims to understand the association between diet/nutrition and the risk of diabetes, obesity and related disorders. Her research has a particular focus on developing and using improved methods to assess diet, including the use of objectively measured nutritional biomarkers.

Nita qualified in Medicine from the University of Newcastle and trained in postgraduate clinical medicine in Edinburgh. She was a Wellcome Clinical Training Fellow in clinical epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she completed a Masters and PhD. Nita specialised in Public Health Medicine in London and Cambridge, and in addition to her research, she is also an Honorary Consultant Public Health Physician with NHS Cambridgeshire (Primary Care Trust), where she is the Public Health diabetes lead.
