East London Diabetes Prevention in Bangladeshi Volunteers (BanglaDiP)

South Asian people are at particularly high risk of developing diabetes. We are contributing to a project among the Bangladeshi community in East London to develop and evaluate ways to reduce this risk.

For this study we are collaborating with Professor Graham Hitman and colleagues from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.  Volunteers are being identified via GP records which show from their medical history whether they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. These individuals are then invited to a health assessment that includes a test for diabetes. Volunteers are then placed into one of four study groups:

This is a pilot study to test whether a full trial is possible. The main outcome of the pilot study will be to establish a suitable protocol for the full cost-effectiveness trial.

This study is funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative.
