Physical Activity Technical Team

It is very difficult to measure physical activity during daily life and the amount of energy people use when they are active. The aim of the Physical Activity Technical Team is to develop and evaluate methods for assessing physical activity in epidemiological studies.

The team is responsible for maintaining the specialist equipment used to monitor physical activity and ensuring that the measurements taken are accurate and consistent across all study sites. They provide training, support and advice by liaising with scientists, suppliers, technicians and research assistants. This enables the unit to achieve safe practices and produce quality data across the Unit’s studies.

The Physical Activity Technical Team are involved in the organisation and running of an annual teaching seminar focusing on the Measurement of Physical Activity in Epidemiology. This seminar provides a combination of lectures and practical sessions for Research Assistants, PhD Students and Post-Doctoral Scientists interested in the field of physical activity research. For further information see the Conferences section of this site.
