Application Procedure

Your first step to apply for a PhD at the MRC Epidemiology is to ensure that you meet all of the University of Cambridge entry requirements.  Once confirmed please send a full CV, covering letter and the contact details of two referees to:

Graduate Studies
MRC Epidemiology Unit
Institute of Metabolic Science
Addenbrooke’s Hospital
Box 285, Hills Road
Cambridge
CB2 0QQ
United Kingdom

Alternatively you may e-mail your details to:

Graduatestudies@mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk

Only after you have been interviewed and offered a PhD at the Unit must you then make a GRADSAF application to the University of Cambridge.

University of Cambridge GRADSAF application

Please follow the University of Cambridge Graduate School of Life Sciences instructions on how to complete the University of Cambridge GRADSAF: Graduate School application instructions.

You will need to know the following information when completing the GRADSAF:

PHD in Epidemiology (3 Years)

MPHIL+PHD in Epidemiology (1+3 Years)

[Please note that currently there is no formal link in the University system between the MPhil and the PhD. The Unit will be aware that you are applying for the 1+3 from your application made directly to the unit. If you are successful in your application and during the MPhil section of your studies, you will then need to apply for continuation to the PhD programme even though the Unit may have admitted you with the intention of a 4-year training programme.]

GRADSAF supporting documents

In order to be eligible for the different funding schemes you must ensure your University application (GRADSAF) is submitted and supporting documents are received by the required deadlines.

Please follow the instructions on the Board of Graduate Studies website on how to send supporting documents for your University application: Graduate School supporting documents guidelines.

Please note:
The hardcopy GRADSAF supporting documents are in addition to the electronic documents we ask you to send when completing the MRC Epidemiology Unit application process.
