The aim of this suite of studies was to validate combined heart rate and movement algorithms for measuring physical activity related energy expenditure and total energy expenditure during walking and running in laboratory and free-living conditions. Studies were conducted in children and adult populations. Prediction of energy expenditure from a selection of other currently available devices (single-plane activity monitors) was compared with the heart rate and movement monitor.
Field work completed. Analysis and publications completed. Extended data processing and analysis are underway to facilitate further publication.
