Work and interests
Yinhua was interested in the longitudinal analysis of activity-travel behaviours and the neighbourhood effects on behavioural changes. He studied the the trajectories of eating behaviours across adolescence and early adulthood with Dr Eleanor Winpenny. Under the project of the Diet and Eating Behaviours across Early Adulthood Transitions (DEBEAT) study, Yinhua’s research aimed to understand how early life transitions and associated context changes (e.g., changes in neighbourhood/school food environment and social networks) reshape dietary patterns and give rise to health inequalities. This longitudinal perspective will lend support to designing effective and fair intervention instruments to develop young people’s health-related behaviours that persist into adulthood.
Background and experience
Yinhua’s research background was health geography. Before joining the MRC Epidemiology Unit as a postdoctoral research associate, he obtained his doctoral degree in urban studies (supervisors were Professor Maarten van Ham and Dr Ana Petrović) from the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. His PhD research is about the longitudinal analysis of commuting behaviour and subjective wellbeing in China, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. He completed his master’s and bachelor’s studies in human geography respectively from Peking University (supervisor Professor Yanwei Chai) and East China Normal University (supervisor Dr Yue Shen) in China.
