Behavioural Epidemiology and Interventions in Young People
Current work and interests
Ghufran is a PhD student in the Behavioural Epidemiology and Interventions in Young People research group, supervised by Dr. Andrea Smith, Dr. Esther van Sluijs, and Dr. Amy Ahern. Ghufran, funded by Gates Cambridge and the ESRC CAM-DTP, will explore digital and social media interventions for the management of childhood obesity through her work.
Background and experience
Ghufran holders a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB, 2024), and a master’s degree in Public Health (MPH, Dist., 2022) from the University of Manchester. Her interest in adolescent health and well-being has lead Ghufran to collaborate with the European Public Health Association and the WHO, as a EUPHANxt Youth Representative, to develop resources, seminars and educational content on topics including adolescent mental health, stigma, sexual and reproductive health, Polio, and antimicrobial resistance. Ghufran’s work exploring the links between social media and body dysmorphia has been presented at the 10th International Festival of Public Health (Manchester, 2022).
