Current work and interests
Sonja Klingberg was a PhD student based in CEDAR and supervised by Dr Esther Van Sluijs. She completed her PhD at the Unit on 2020. Sonja was also an Honorary Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where her PhD advisers were Dr Catherine Draper and Professor Shane Norris. Sonja’s PhD research focused on childhood obesity prevention in Soweto, South Africa, and she is particularly interested in intervention development and implementation research in low resource settings.
Background and experience
Prior to joining the MRC Epidemiology Unit and CEDAR, Sonja worked on an interdisciplinary health research project at Uppsala University in Sweden, which is where she completed her Master’s degree in International Health in 2015. Sonja also has a BA in International Development from the University of East Anglia, and she has worked in development cooperation and health research in Nepal, Zambia, Uganda, Finland, Sweden, and the UK.
