Senior Nutritionist Projects
Innovation in the Measurement of Diet, Physical Activity and Nutrition, NIHR Cambridge BRC Dietary Assessment Platform
Current work and interests
Toni works as a senior nutritionist in the Dietary Assessment team in the NIHR Cambridge BRC Measurement Platform. She leads on getting dietary assessment projects set-up and running. This means working with researchers to advise and operationalise dietary data collection in studies and surveys. A large focus of her work is developing methods and protocols to move dietary data collection to more automated, online tools. This has included leading on work to move the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) to an automated online 24hr recall.
Toni joined the NIHR BRC DAPA Group in October 2018. Prior to this she worked for MRC Elsie Widdowson Laboratory, where she had supported dietary assessment projects, including the NDNS, since 2011.
Background and experience
Toni has a BSc (Hons) in nutrition and dietetics and a PhD in bacterial metabolism of dietary anti-carcinogens. Prior to her work on dietary assessment and the NDNS, she worked in Public Health Nutrition in primary care with a focus on childhood nutrition programmes and obesity. She also has an interest in nutrition science communication.
