Aetiology and Mechanisms of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders of Later Life
Current work and interests
Kamil is a Visiting Worker at the MRC Epidemiology Unit. He is interested in identifying predictors and causal mediators of complications of type 2 diabetes and obesity. His current work integrates large-scale multi-mic datasets with longitudinal prognostic outcomes to improve understanding of metabolic disease progression and determinants of disease progression. He is a Walter Benjamin Fellow funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Background and experience
Kamil completed an MD/PhD through the advanced track program of the Charité University, Berlin, conducting his thesis at the Institute of Experimental Endocrinology in collaboration with Lund University, Sweden. He received the Robert Koch Prize of the Charité for the thesis of the year (2nd). His work focused on serum-based biomarkers including selenoproteins, to predict incidence and prognosis of metabolic and malignant diseases in large population cohorts. As a clinician scientist with a strong interest in endocrinology and metabolic medicine, he works at the interface of clinical practice and computational medicine.
