Work and interests
Matthew was a Data Scientist in the Physical Activity Epidemiology programme. He was primarily involved in methodological work relating to harmonisation of physical activity data from wearables and application in epidemiological studies.
Background and experience
Matthew joined the Unit in June 2016 as Research Associate to develop the existing DAPA Measurement Toolkit. He subsequently worked on a variety of projects including aetiological studies using UK Biobank, federated meta-analysis as part of InterConnect, and dose-response meta-analysis of physical activity and multiple disease endpoints. He also completed a 6 month secondment with GDAR.
Matthew completed an MSc in Nutrition, Physical Activity & Public Health at the University of Bristol before earning his PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2015. This research focused on the use of combined accelerometer, GPS and diary methods to measure physical activity in different environments.
